Whenever clients ask me what my absolute favorite thing to shoot is, I always, always say proposals. If I could shoot only proposals for a living, I would!! The emotion is so raw and so genuine and the locations are almost always breathtaking and symbolic of the moment that unfolds in front of it. The other thing I love about proposals is the fact that often, our clients are from around the country and the world!! As a proud vendor with How He Asked, the famous proposal website, tourists wishing to propose in New York easily find us. In less than 2 years, we’ve had clients fly in from as far as Sweden and Australia, Washington State and Texas!! And as of yesterday, now we can add Germany to that list! When Lucas told me in his initial email that he and girlfriend (now fiance!) Pia would be visiting from Dusseldorf, I flipped!! I’m totally biased since my mother’s family is originally from Germany and to this day, my family quotes my relatives’ broken English and funny, witty sayings 🙂 So the fact that this sweet couple was a nationality that I have not worked with yet just made me love them that much more!! I always say that proposals, for many reasons, are the absolute hardest to plan…mainly because we are planning them secretly and from different states (or countries!) and it’s extremely difficult to coordinate and make sure the proposer is on the same page that you are. I must have told Pia one hundred times that Lucas was a star in the planning process!! He took my recommendations to heart, he followed my directions to a tee and he was so cool, calm and collected. Extra bravo!! When I asked Lucas about his vision for the big moment, he indicated that he definitely wanted to propose somewhere at Brooklyn Bridge Park/DUMBO and if possible, to get some stunning portraits on the actual bridge (done and done!!) After a few site visits (yup, I got lost 3 times) I chose the perfect “on-one-knee” spot and sent off my recommendation to Lucas. Just 2 weeks later, these two loves strolled up to the exact location and it happened flawlessly! And as I told Pia and Lucas, my bags are already packed for a Germany wedding!! 😉 Love these two!
